Famous coffee chain Starbucks to the end of 2019 plans allow visitors to pay for your orders with the cryptocurrency, which through the platform Bakkt will be instantly converted to Fiat. About it writes The Block, citing people familiar with the situation sources.
It is assumed that initially the ability to pay with bitcoin will only be available to customers in the United States. While digital assets in the financial reports, Starbucks may not match.
At the moment, the company from Seattle is developing the corresponding application. In case of successful completion of the project, Starbucks will be the first point on the platform.
According to the publication, Bakkt agreed to give Starbucks a “disproportionate” share of their enterprise, although the coffee chain and not invested in the development of the site. As noted, the cooperation based on mutually beneficial terms, specific numbers, however, were not named.
It is noteworthy that similar information has already appeared in the press in the summer of 2018. Then the management of Starbucks said that the coffee shop will not accept bitcoin directly, but will allow users to convert bitcoin to Fiat via a special application.
We will remind, in August of 2018, Starbucks became one of the original participants in the project to create a platform Bakkt, which, in particular, will be offered to institutional investors futures bitcoin. Originally the launch was planned for autumn last year, but was postponed several times. However, it can be considered only a matter of time.
In February, about the intention to invest in the development Bakkt $25 million announced Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the new York stock exchange.
