I am about to share this article to facebook, in another attempt to persuade my friends to join Steemit, as well as Golos. I know these social media sites can be life changing for my friends and family so this is my plea to them. I also have a facebook page dealing with my collectibles with over 5k members, so hopefully I can spread the message:
For those curious about Steemit, this really is a CLEAR in-depth overview. I joined at the beginning of August 2016 when Steemit was only 5 months old. Over 9 months later and my account is valued at $1765 which I could withdraw over 13 weeks. Simplistically, if the price of Steem remains stable it would mean I could get around R1800 per week for 13 weeks. Over and above that I've already withdrawn around R4000/R5000 during this period.
I won't be withdrawing the money though, especially as I have invested nothing but time. Take the price of Bitcoin as an example. In August the price of 1 Bitcoin was around $800. 9 months later 1 Bitcoin is selling at $1300. This is why I am holding on to my investment (of time) for now.
Cryptocurrencies are notoriously volatile, so this may not pay off, but I have seen the developers constantly experimenting and tweaking the site, some changes have been met with more success than others. Over the months at times I have done really well with my blogs, but then I have gone through long "dry periods" where my payouts are low. I go with the flow, I can only blog about what I know, and also within my time constraints. I regard even low payouts as a positive, as I am still earning Steem Power, which I believe will increase greatly in value in the future.
The content on Steemit is really varied, so you could blog about anything and everything. Photography, art, poetry and fiction posts do well too. You can also earn by commenting constructively on the blogs of others. When you build enough Steem Power, you also earn Steem Power by voting. All explained in the article I shared.
I've also joined Golos, the Russian version of Steemit, who have their own cryptocurrency. One advantage of this is that you can post the same content you posted to Steemit on Golos, so you have the opportunity to earn twice for your blog. Though be aware that you cannot share anything else on the net without properly accrediting it, as Steemit is tough on plagiarism. Even if the content is your own, but say has previously been shared on facebook, make a note of this in your article.
In South Africa the value of our rand is low, so the opportunity to earn in dollars can be life changing, or at least a supplement to your income. If you are going to spend time on social media, why not earn while you are doing it?
To see people that are struggling to better their lives will obviously make me happy, but what I'd like other Steemit/Golos members to consider is that it is definitely to our advantage to persuade as many of our friends to join Steemit/Golos as it will also benefit us. Friends have similar interests, so votes on our blogs could be significantly increased. Imagine if half of my facebook page 5k members voted for my "Auction Find" articles???
