This holly blue (Голубянка весенняя, Celastrina argiolus) I saw the other evening has found a comfortable place:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 200mm, ISO200, f8, 1/250s
These little butterflies are called boomblauwtje ("small tree blue") in Dutch. They like to sit in trees, and the top side of their wings, which they rarely show, is blue:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f8, 1/400s
From the side, they look silvery in full light, with a hint of blue and sometimes pink:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f8, 1/250s
Every now and again, they descend from the trees to look for minerals on the forest floor:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f8, 1/100s
They usually get their minerals from bird droppings:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/160s
Pretty little butterflies, despite their diet.
Love them.
