Updates to the Big Mek and Flash Git
I've been dabbling in the details for the models I posted in Part 2 and Part 3. I have updated their respective bases and fleshed out areas in their designs that felt too unfinished. Don't forget to also look for Part 1 to see where these models began!
The Big Mek has had new gribbly bits added to his Kustom Force Field made by clipping a Grot Prod end, a broken toy disk plow, and a new gear and axle assembly. The old axle was too chunky, although I did like the overall look, so I built a new replacement.
I also added a few rivets by carefully cutting a styrene rod into small discs, and used the tip of a craft knife to dip them in glue and place them in position. Files clean up the rough shapes, although a certain crudeness enhances Orky design. And a couple little metal pieces were added to the base.
On reading through the rules, it appears the Flash Git is also supposed to have a 40mm base. I decided to experiment by punching a hole in the base to accept the 25mm base he currently sports. I added a thin metal plate to the underside of the base, and intend to glue the washer to the bottom of the large base with a thin magnet I ripped out of an old cell phone holster I planned to throw away.
Once that project is done, he can serve as a Nob with a Twin-Linked Shoota if I don't ever increase my supply of Flash Gits, but he can be quickly promoted should conditions warrant. I also added more detail to the gun by adding a scope, a horizontal foregrip, muzzle detail, and a few rivets.
The scope is from a broken toy, but beyond that I cannot say. The styrene tubing I have been using is from different sources, and I have had to use drill bits to increase the inside diameters to allow them to properly fit together. This thinner wall actually improves the fit and finish, I think.
I also finished off his targeter eye implant. Once primed and painted, the detail should pop. Right now, the flash makes the detail almost invisible. It's nothing elaborate, but I think it has the desired effect.
At this point, they are both basically done. My next plan requires finding where I stashed my "green stuff" 2-part modeling epoxy so I can fit the 40mm base properly and begin my projects for the other Nobz. I think one will get a Big Choppa, one a suit of Mega Armor, and I am still open to suggestions for the third remaining Ork. Please comment below if you have any ideas! I could even build another Big Mek, this time with a Shokk Attack Gun, but I'd need a lot of community support if I am going to attempt that!
