There are some incredible wineries located in Northern California at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The microclimate in the Shenandoah Valley is well suited for Zinfandel grapes and the results are fantastic wines.
We recently took a trip to Young’s Vineyard and were not disappointed with the wines, scenery, and ambiance. Such a wonderful boutique winery nestled in the hills.
The weather was perfect. Warm with a slight breeze. Rows of ripening grapes as far as the eye could see. The farm is set in a picturesque hillside with a lake and mature oak trees. They have a beautiful tasting room and plenty of outdoor seating.
The wines were bold and flavorful, but it was the ambiance that really made the day. Relaxing, drinking great wine with the person you love on a gorgeous day in the Sierra’s is like a mini-vacation.
There must be nearly a hundred different wineries in this area. Many are new, but some have been around for decades. It is not as famous as the Napa and Sonoma wine area, but it is gaining in reputation. As it is close for us, we are on a mission to visit as many as possible and sample what this region has to offer.
We will be back to Young’s Vineyard.
