The Nasca Lines of Peru

You might have seen some great or big sketches or painting or drawing or any other kind of art or you may be artist who would be doing any of these, but have you seen some art as big as 1,200 ft long ?

There are some Geoglyph i.e. designs produced on ground formed with some classic stones or similar elements like stones, live trees, etc. in the Nazca Desert, in southern Peru.

It is said that these lines/sketches are created by by the Nazca culture between 500 BCE and 500 CE. There are around 800 sketches spread across 80 kms or 50 miles from which 300 sketches are some animals or plants. These sketches are formed by removing reddish pebbles & uncovering whitish ground under.

These sketches are naturally preserved as there is very little change in weather in this desert, but as of 2012 these lines are said to have been deteriorating.

These lines were first discovered by the Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejía Xesspe while hiking through the foothills in 1927. Paul Kosok who was historian from Long Island University while resurching about lines flew over the dessert & found out that one was in that shape of bird & then he started studying how & why these lines were created.

It is not exactly known that why these lines were created but one hypothesis is that they were created by Nazca people so that lines will seen by gods in sky.
One of the popular & most famous theory written by Swiss writer Erich von Däniken is that as line are very big & complex, there could be some extraterrestrial life involved in creating these lines.

Even after lines are examined by numerous anthropologists, ethnologists, and archaeologists, not to mention new-agers, ancient astronaut theorists, and alien enthusiasts, we still do not know and we will never know why & how this lines were made. Does Nazca people made them ? We just know is that is it very strange thing.
